Is It the End Yet? by Dan Minto

November 2020 - Is It the End Yet?

About the Image(s)

It was taken around a year ago in a Cup Competition where my usual Team were playing a much lower league Team. As the Cup progresses, the likelihood of such a mismatch is probable. This is the winger of the losing Team near the end of the game where they were being soundly beaten. It was a cold, wet afternoon, and he didn't see a lot of the ball and was close to tears at this stage. Given the weather and lighting, it looks far better in mono than in colour.

Camera: Canon EOS 1D-X
Lens: Canon EF 300mm F2.8L
Shutter: 1/2000
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 3200

This is a very emotional rugby photo. You can literally feel the player's dejection, it doesn't matter if the result of the game is a close or a high defeat, it always feels bad for him. In this photo you have shown a good eye and pressed the shutter button at the right moment. After the game there are always interesting scenes that are worth taking pictures of.   Posted: 11/12/2020 02:57:28

I agree that this image is better as a monochrome than a color photo. The monochrome image also lessens the distracting visual impact of "Worthington's" on the goal post, but I still find the letters distract from the story, and while there is a story here, it is not apparent from the photo alone.

From your image description, the emotion here is easily imagined, but not explicitly shown. I guess it's always better to be able to show at least part of the face, if possible.   Posted: 11/23/2020 14:50:13
