About the Image(s)

Title: Olympic Development Team

This is an image of my adopted grandson in blue who made the Seattle Sounders youth/Olympic development team after coming to our family as an orphan from Uganda. My daughter found him in an orphanage and adopted him two years later. It was a miracle he is the one she found out of all the children in Uganda she could have adopted. I say a miracle because we found out two years after that, he had an older brother who played on the Uganda national team. Even better, I knew his brother and even had photographs of him that I had taken of him playing for a team from Uganda in 2007 at the Gothia Cup in Sweden. His is a joy in our lives and now works 70 hours a week holding down jobs at both Costco and Home Depot.

Canon 1D ML III; Canon 400mm; f2.8
f2.8; 1/3200; ISO100

(Thanks, Bruce Benson. I do not have the original raw image available.)

Hi Bruce, a top soccer picture is this one of you. Nice quiet background and you have captured the scene beautifully, great sharpness and that with open aperture of the lens, the 2/8 400 mm is a top lens. Even better than your photo I like the story you tell here, compliment for so much commitment from your family.   Posted: 08/01/2020 09:08:47

great action photo, great focus, intensity, faces. Looks like you touched up the background, but it looks good.   Posted: 08/03/2020 14:49:59

You have got to love that 400mm f2.8 lens. The background is superb and really brings out the subjects. You caught peak action and that foot driving directly toward the camera certainly carries power. You technical skills clearly show, especially with your camera angle. You clearly know that speed is your friend and the 1/3200 contributed to the complete sharpness.

I also like the angle of the light, the strong side light brought out shadows and textures that add to the image.

This is superb!   Posted: 08/04/2020 17:09:53

Excellent image, even better story of adoption. You should be very pleased with this image which shows so much commitment to a tackle.

Your Grandson is a credit to you.   Posted: 08/13/2020 10:15:57

As usual, you've captured great action. This photo has it all -- good composition, good technique, good background blur. Even a bit of flying turf in the lower right (at first, I thought it was a bee). Great image.   Posted: 08/22/2020 22:17:02
