About the Image(s)

This hockey image is from a UM-Duluth women's game from a couple of years ago. I decided that I preferred this image in Black and White rather than color. I find that I tend to concentrate on the goalies during a game … perhaps that they are more stationary and easier than tracking the action up and down the ice?

I think this photo has great contrast and without color, puts the emphasis on the lines and angles on the pads, the pads themselves, the stick angle and also the glove angles. I am kind of reminded of a zorro effect. I also like the composition and crop.   Posted: 12/11/2019 05:31:48

Each time I've looked at this group, I've been drawn to this photo. I know part of it is the composition - my eyes are drawn immediately to the pads and the stick - but I suspect part of it is wondering "what happened next?". I think she must have made the save.   Posted: 12/13/2019 11:51:29

Joseph, As the others have noticed, the image has a lot of lines and angles. For me the puck entering the image really makes the story. Bruce   Posted: 12/13/2019 17:45:07

Surprised at the puck blur at the speed of the shot - I like it. Also like the composition. I have been converting more PJ and nature shots in and entering in mono with the thought of also going to print exhibitions. Something about b&w I like (check out the book 100 Years In Titletown featuring Packer photos by Vern Biever and Jim Biever. I agree with Bruce that the puck makes the difference. Thumbs up.   Posted: 12/14/2019 14:03:12

Like everyone else in the group, I like the conversion to B&W. I like the composition, and the puck makes the shot. Nice image -- I think this would be a regular acceptance in PJ sports internationals.   Posted: 12/15/2019 11:14:33
