About the Image(s)

This is one of my all time favorites. I had a press pass for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers here in CT.. We got to use the press holes in the glass in the arena.

Press holes! I am jealous. I shoot at Merrimack College a few times a year and it has very scratched and dirty glass! This image is so nice and clear.

Great emotion of this one. You can really see the effort in skating forward. Nice thin DOF to blur the background nicely. On the downside the puck is missing and the two other players do not add a lot to the image. If you want to zoom this tight try to get two players interacting with emotion, perhaps during a check or racing to a puck.   Posted: 06/15/2018 19:51:08

The emotion on the face is good, but I don't get the image, it could be that I do not follow hockey, but there is nothing happening that gives a story to the image. It would help with a puck in the shot and other players doing something to give the image some meaning. Sorry, I just don't get the shot at all.   Posted: 06/18/2018 15:38:12

I like the shot for the emotion that you see at the amateur level. It tells a story of the many things that are usually happening in hockey. Like Bob said, clear glass/press holes hard to find.   Posted: 06/24/2018 11:07:56

Welcome to DD59. This image certainly does show determination, but the skater on the left edge doesn't look like he's very determined or even interested. Also the stick gets lost because it is pointing straight at the camera.
I think you would be better served by less zoom so that you can see the competitive interaction. You can always crop if you want get a closeup of the face.
(In my opinion, for the peak hockey action, it's best to show the puck, maybe the net, two players contesting for the puck with sticks visible, the goalie, or preferably some combination of these elements.)   Posted: 06/26/2018 17:05:26

I also really like the determination shown on the skater's face. I am also envious of being able to shoot through media holes in the plexiglass. I've had little success shooting through the hockey boards … did have one occasion where I was allowed in a media both … between the team benches … with no plexiglass at all … that was quite an experience.

I wonder if the player on the left edge of the image adds to the composition. I submit this cropped version as a possible alternative. Welcome to the group! I'm looking forward to your future images and comments.   Posted: 06/29/2018 17:36:25
