About the Image(s)

Tech Info
1/1250 Second @ f5.6 ISO 200, Nikon D500 with 28-300mm at 300 mm. I have so many images of panned super bike, I though I would try a different look, so at the Kink at Road America, I tried to get them from the back. It was a nice grouping, I was really hoping for 3 bike, but got 4 that were lined up nicely. Do you think this would work in PJ exhibitions?

All of the bike and bikers are nicely in sync -- leaning at the same angle, right knee extended. The colors and the background are nice. (Here comes the "however," ...) However, I don't think shooting from behind will work in PJ exhibitions -- this shot from the other side, with the bikers coming at the camera, would be much better. Also, the merger of the two middle bikers makes the composition a bit confusing. Sorry, but I don't think this would be a regular acceptance, even in PJ exibitions.   Posted: 07/18/2017 16:33:27

I think the "from the back" shot will be tough sell in US exhibitions. I have seen it in some motorcycle mags and will watch for some of the european exhibitions (fyi the european ones I'm thinking of also have more grunge to them. I'm not concerned with the merged cyclists as it's very common in racing and shows how tight and close racers get.
Tough thing with this class of bikers (front/side/whichever) is showing how young they are (14 to 17 max).
I'd give it a try in sports pj class at least once - its different and like Gerry said same lean, etc.. Given that Calif starts some of these kids at 5, some judge may have a grand child racing.   Posted: 07/24/2017 20:43:54

I actually really like this composition. I like the lead-in line and curve created by the four-some ... my first impression of this image is "wow ... I'm in fifth place in this race".
Would three bikes be better than four? I actually don't think so ... I like how the nearest rider is not as sharp as the others ... this helps my eye pass over that rider and look further into the group. Would I score this image higher if I could see each of the rider's faces ... I'm not sure.
I'd be interested to see what kind of an acceptance record this image would have in PSA exhibitions.   Posted: 07/30/2017 00:56:15
