Dancing at the Sugar Shack by Bruce Goodman

January 2021 - Dancing at the Sugar Shack

About the Image(s)

As a semi-reformed 'donut aholic', I dropped in to a Sugar Shack donut shop while waiting for a colleague on a trip to Washington DC. While I'm not sure if this is on topic (street photography) I had my camera with me when I walked in to the shop from the street.
Two women were working - there were no other customers besides myself. They nicely obliged me when I asked them if I could take their photos (yes, if they were posted on the Sugar Shack Instagram). This woman was lots of fun, dancing with the donuts for my camera.
Olympus OMD EM1 Mark II; 12-40mm 2.8; ISO 200; 1/40 sec; f 3.5; 80 mm (equivalent). Post processing in LR (radial filters; brush, gradient filter); some 'focus sharpening' with Topaz Sharpen AI (new purchase) as it the shutter speed was a bit low for the action; PS to clone out some distracting objects.

I don't think I actually had a donut!

Bruce, the girl is dancing and showing the donut's holes....Her gesture and body language is great denoting happiness. The image is sharp and well illuminated.   Posted: 01/04/2021 19:55:31

A pleasant image to look at. The lady's cheerfulness radiates on the viewer. The Topaz Sharpen has done a good job.   Posted: 01/18/2021 06:29:12

Bruce …good capture and pose of the subject in 3/4 view. I think you caught the character of the woman as she looks like a fun-loving person. Nice and well-balanced composition showing the woman in her environment with donuts in her hands and the black backdrop. Probably would have cropped out the tip jar and electrical outlet on the left as they detract from the image. Good job!   Posted: 01/19/2021 06:33:18
