Last Rays of the Sun by Daniel De Cort, QPSA

December 2020 - Last Rays of the Sun

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Knokke on the Belgian coast in early autumn. The beach was deserted, but some people were enjoying the last rays of the sun before winter begins.

I used: ISO 320, f11, 1/1500, 83 mm.

Daniel, this is the kind of images that are selected in street photography competitions. Here you have a lot of things going on. First the solitude of the woman, the soccer golly frame, the red sign stating that it is forbidden to swim and finally the presence of a kid all the way in the background kneeling on the sand. Perhaps the small rocks at the left (my left) edge of the frame is a little distracting. Normally you should include them completely, or not at all. All the elements together denote the immensity of the beach seen.   Posted: 12/03/2020 08:32:45

The perspective of this shot is terrific as is keeping a great deal of the sand around the subjects. I wonder if this woman met her 'goal' with the last of the sun's rays and hope that is not her child playing by the sea while the mom naps. B   Posted: 12/16/2020 07:44:35

Daniel.. I like the geometric elements in this image - the circle of the sign, the rectangular shape of the goal posts and the beach chair. Definite layers of foreground, middle and background leads to a well composed image. Extra points for the small child playing in the background!   Posted: 12/17/2020 06:17:15

Daniel, your picture is very airy but with a great impact. I think the photo would be better without the black rocks in the upper left side and a crop exactly on the horizon line would further simplify the image. Good picture   Posted: 12/21/2020 13:44:19
