About the Image(s)

Weed Pullers was created a few years ago on our visit to the Drottningholm Palace and Gardens in Stockholm – Sweden. The palace is the private residence of the Swedish royal family. Normally you would photograph the actual palace which is a great renaissance structure built originally in the late 16th century (Original 1) , with several rebuilds and additions, but the gardens are so perfect and symmetric and are one of the main attractions for the tourist (image 2). While walking around, I was surprised to see these two young women actually pulling weeds from in between the rocky structures, and from the content of their baskets, they were at it for a few hours already. I used my first Nikon digital camera with a cropped sensor D300 with the Nikkor zoom lens 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 and with these settings: ISO 200, f/10 and 1/400 sec. The image was PP in lightRoom, and cropped.

For sure visiting this place is a great experience with mix of emotions.
The capture is attractive as it is telling a little rare story. We do not usually see like these activities, which make the experience more interesting.
The colors are attractive and the photos is sharp and it is nice that we have like a silent dialogue between the two ladies.   Posted: 11/15/2020 06:05:04

The photo has two dominant colors blue and green that complement each other very well. Also the connection between the girls is strong, they both have the same hair color, same clothes and same baskets, but at the same time they look so different: one is very focused on the activity she does, and the second is much more relaxed.
I also like that these green baskets seem to connect chromatically and formally with the green pots at the top of the image. Good picture, Isaac!   Posted: 11/15/2020 14:21:35

My bet is that there are hundreds of photos like your originals 1 and 2 but only one photo of the 'Weed Pullers'. That makes it interesting in it self. You captured a simple story of the two young women working, talking, thinking? There are lots of eye catching, contrasting greens and blues along with the reddish color of the young women's hair. Thanks. B   Posted: 11/18/2020 19:17:33

Isaac, the well manicured lawns and gardens takes a lot of manual labor. These young gardeners have a pain staking job of pulling the weeds with pliers. One of the two is watching while the other is working. The image is anchored by the smooth concrete monolith and the stone embankment forms a "7" which leads back to the focus point. Touches of green surround the women and pulls the image together. Lots of textures and contrast in the hardscape makes the image all the more interesting. Well seen!   Posted: 11/18/2020 19:34:24

This photo is more than an addition to the original 1-2, it also stands alone as a photo. The persons are separate from the gray background thanks to the blue color. The baskets also contrast beautifully. Good story.   Posted: 11/20/2020 07:02:20
