October 2020 - Framed

About the Image(s)

Image taken in last year with the following camera settings f5.6, 1/1600 ISO 200. Standing across the street and waiting for pedestrians who access this thoroughfare is a great way to capture street photos. The tattoo parlor makes for a good backdrop. Minimal post processing – global edits to open up the shadows in Lightroom and straightening in PS.

Gloria, interesting effect of capturing the woman walking towards you a a silhouette, which adds mystery to the image. The house in the background with the lighted signs gives you more elements for the history. Indeed she is framed twice, first by the dark alley, and secondly by the red brick walls in the foreground. It is sharp. I cropped it to eliminate empty space (extra framing) which does not add but dilutes the image.   Posted: 10/02/2020 15:32:03

Agree with Isaac, there are too many elements on the sides of the image that distract attention, a simplification of the image through a crop emphasizes more the woman and the background that provides information where it comes from.   Posted: 10/16/2020 13:07:43

Overall, I like the way the layers of the building draw the viewer into the tattoo parlor but do like the cropped edit better which preserves the layers of the building arches while still focusing on the brighter image further back of the tattoo parlor. There is something about the woman walking that I am still trying to figure out. Her face appears a bit odd (at first I thought it was a mask). Perhaps the face was over processed to try and bring out some details? Thanks. B   Posted: 10/16/2020 18:56:50

I agree with Isaac to remove the text: Henley ..., then the image gains depth and we ask the question whether the lady has had a tattoo. Interesting image.   Posted: 10/21/2020 09:47:02

Nice framing for the walking woman, The sunlight and shadows are adding beautiful drama to the photo. the background is giving nice depth.
My only comment is that it needs a little more exposure.   Posted: 10/28/2020 07:03:44

My eye goes right to the tattoo house guided in by the brick walls, the dark entrance and then to the well lighted house. I do agree with the others that some additional cropping is necessary but I am really not sure where the cropping should end. I always look at the stories and this was is interesting, did the women get pierced, tattooed or just walk by after contemplating the art.   Posted: 10/28/2020 10:43:44
