About the Image(s)

Sliding Down was created in Mongolia a couple of years ago in march during the winter/ice festival when the temperatures are in the range of -40 F. This occurs every year on the southern edge of the Siberian forest, at the lake Khovsgol, which freezes completely over, and the ice forms to a depth of five feet, creating an extraordinary winter playground where a lot of activities take place. This ice slide was built on the spot cutting ice from the lake. I used a Nikon D5 with the Nikkor lens 70 “ 200 mm f/2.8 @ 160 mm and with these settings: ISO 800, f/8 and 1/500 sec hand held. Also 2/3 EC added. The image was corrected for white balance, brightness, some clarity added and was cropped. I added a second image on the same site to illustrate the whole length of the ice slide and to show the people waiting in line to get on the slide.
