About the Image(s)

Loy (meaning float) Krathong (lotus shape floating vessel) Originally a Buddhist celebration that was adopted. It is truly a spectacular floating festival of flowers, candle lights and incense sticks. It's celebrated throughout Thailand every year during the night of the full moon in the twelfth lunar month of November. All the markets as well as street vendors are selling the floating devices which are made with a slice of the banana tree nicely decorated (Originals 1 and 2). Krathong symbolises a time for one to cleanse past sins and seek renewed happiness for the new year. It's a special time too when married or engaged couples are blessed so that they may prosper in the upcoming year.

This image was created while we were in Chiang Mai – Thailand last November with a Nikon D850 and the Nikkor lens 28 – 300 mm f/3.5-5.6 at 28 mm and these settings: ISO 800, f/8 and 1/200 sec. The image was corrected for light in the shadows, added slight clarity, straightened and cropped. It was finished in Luminar 3 using the AI preset.

A colorful capture of two women skillfully creating works of art. Thank you for the background story. I offer an alternate cropped for consideration which I believe draws attention to the hands producing these works of art.

Isaac…I enjoyed reading the back story of the image and its culture. Nice vibrant colors and the one that's different (vendor) makes her the center of interest. All of the various hands tell a story. Like Dan.. I believe the two school girls in red and blue detract from the story - in color, and their interest is elsewhere. I have included another version of the crop- centered on the ladies in yellow & green, plus the vendor; this makes a group of odds and makes the hands on the "lower thirds" composition wise.   Posted: 09/12/2019 10:59:47

Gloria, I like this option better, makes sense.   Posted: 09/12/2019 15:08:53

Love the colors of this image. Brings me back to Thailand when I look at it! I would offer a suggestion to be a little closer to the subject to give the viewer more detail. Overall nice composition and nice shot!   Posted: 09/14/2019 15:38:41

Interesting story you told us. Nice colors and good composition-view point. The option of Gloria makes the picture stronger.   Posted: 09/20/2019 03:49:00

Interesting story.
It is nice to see traditional and cultural subject with these beautiful colors and special clothes.
I liked the deep of the photo as we can see people in front, middle and even in the back top left corner. However I felt a little confused at the first glimpse and somehow distracted.   Posted: 09/21/2019 06:08:06

I agree with Gloria's crop. You could also get rid of the red handbag as it distracts like the red shirted bystanders. Great color, really sets the scene.   Posted: 09/29/2019 22:41:56
