Beach Break by Hassan Sadek, QPSA

August 2019 - Beach Break

About the Image(s)

I took this photo in Antalya/Turkey in the famous beach of Konyaalti.
The place is full of beautiful scenes for both photography and relaxation. I took this photo for this guy who seemed to have a break in front of the beach.

the settings were: 1/500 sec. f/9 21mm, ISO: 800

Hassan, you are giving us an image that implies peace and quiet times, but I think that in this particular case less is more. In the original image, the sitting man looks minuscule and gets lost in the landscape. The image is sharp, the horizon is straight and well placed in the frame. I cropped the image and did some cleaning of distracting elements. Now the man looks more obvious in the large real state. The cement slabs work as leading lines towards the man.   Posted: 08/06/2019 17:41:23

Hassan, the man, the bicycle and the tree make a really nice composition. My immediate thought was to crop in a little closer to make the man more clearly the main subject in the frame. I took it into Photoshop and cropped it. Then, before posting my version I scrolled on down to see Isaac's comments and would you believe, my crop was almost exactly the same as Isaac's!   Posted: 08/12/2019 03:49:06

I fully agree with Isaac and Guy, the crop to a square pictures make it really a great photo. Strong and sober composition, I like it very much.   Posted: 08/15/2019 04:50:27

I also agree with the square crop and eliminating the tree on the left. I like the lamppost which provides a counterbalance of manmade vs. the natural loose tree. In the end - the "man" is the focus of the composition. Nice job Hassan!   Posted: 08/19/2019 14:27:53

A black and white version would also work.   Posted: 08/27/2019 08:52:55

I prefer the black and white version and believe a closer shot would have placed more emphasis on the man in a peaceful setting.   Posted: 08/27/2019 12:30:35
