Easter Rose by Jessica Manelis

March 2023 - Easter Rose

About the Image(s)

The weather has been so mild in NJ that my Easter roses are in full bloom (I feel like it is a little too early). The other day I went walking around my own yard looking for signs of Spring. I took several pictures of the Easter roses. They can be a little hard to capture because they tend to face down. I erased one side leaf. Not sure if the background is too busy. I would love your thoughts.

Beautiful shot of the flower with nice lighting. I would suggest you zoom in for a real close-up, eliminating the busy, bright background and the bud which is cut off.   Posted: 03/19/2023 10:33:23

Beautiful bloom Jessica. I like the color and the backlighting does help bring out some depth. Yes, that bright background is distracting, maybe you can blend in a new background with layers and Blend Modes.   Posted: 03/20/2023 12:51:48

Very nice colors. I would maybe get a little closer, and clone out the bud on the top right. Maybe darken or blur the background.   Posted: 03/21/2023 09:14:54

I have never heard of the Easter Rose, but it is a very pretty flower, and you captured it well. The flower is very sharp and the background is nicely blurred. I did darken the background some.   Posted: 03/21/2023 11:30:24

Hi Jessica - I really like your composition here and the flower is lovely and sharp. The petals have depth and a good range of colour. I like the flower with background to give context, but I agree it is quite busy. I would suggest experimenting with color balance adjustment layers or a LUT adjustment layer at low opacity to darken the background.   Posted: 03/29/2023 22:47:27

This picture has great composition and color coordination. The background become increasingly supportive to the subject. The slight tilt of the flower gives it a natural and healthy feel with the supporting plants stems, leaves and buds. My wife had an orchid just bloom. The pedals of this rose seem similar.   Posted: 03/30/2023 00:35:59
