About the Image(s)

Image taken along the frozen shoreline of the Peshtigo River in Marinette County, WI. I liked the rough edges of the ice, contrasted with the muddy water. Taken with my Sony a6500, 35mm lens at ISO 400, f5.6 at 1/200. Processed in ON1 with adjustments to contrast, reduced the highlights, and a slight increase in the midtone slider. Added a little bit of sharpening to all except the brightest highlights. Heavily cropped the image to focus more on the diagonal ice line and hoping to show more of the texture in the ice.

I agree! I love the contrast of texture and color of the ice against the mud. I am wondering if you are able to clarify or sharpen the texture of the ice a little bit more to make it pop out? The ice looks a little "flat" which I am sure it was not.   Posted: 02/10/2021 12:56:13

Hi Bob, I like your choice of crop, and I like the wonderful contrast you have achieved between the two areas of the image.
I agree with Jessica that it would be good to get a bit more clarity in the ice, just to bring it out a little more.   Posted: 02/10/2021 13:56:50

Thanks for the input, I see what you're both saying. I held back on the sharpening of the ice quite a bit since there were so many highlights. But some added midtone clarity would work; will give it a try.   Posted: 02/12/2021 16:39:25

Very interesting. I agree that the ice could be a little sharper with a little more contrast. I would suggest cropping about half of the bottom of the ice away. The interesting patterns are in the top half of the ice. I cropped and then went a whole different, abstract way with this using Topaz Glow.   Posted: 02/15/2021 16:19:05

I like your crop and your idea to contrast the interesting piece of diagonal ice against the dark mud below. You might also consider taking this to Silver Effex to make it a more dramatic black and white image. You could also play with it by taking it to Topaz like Cindy did above.   Posted: 02/16/2021 22:07:04

Very nice image. I might try and sharpen a bit, and darken the brown background.   Posted: 02/26/2021 09:30:00

Perfect close up for this time of year. Very interesting melt pattern. Great background with texture which shows depth. My first impression matches my most resent which is it's a winning shot. So many possibilities in editing as Cindy shows.   Posted: 02/28/2021 16:26:53
