Fern Curl by Cindy Lynch

September 2020 - Fern Curl

About the Image(s)

Taken on a cloudy, day after the rain. I was able to darken the background enough to let the fern stand out alone. I sharpened the fern and increased the contrast some. Settings: f/8, 1/100 sec., ISO 560 (I think it was on auto) and 170 mm.

Hi Cindy. I like the diagonal aspect of the unfurling fern. The depth of field is perfect - everything on the front plane is in focus, the other half of the frond is soft.
I like that you have left some detail in the background, just to give it place.   Posted: 09/10/2020 00:01:32

Nice capture, Cindy. It's such great photo opportunity when the fern goes through this process. As Mary mentioned, the diagonal line of the stem makes for a great leading line to the . I like your exposure on the leaves, there's enough light/dark to keep interest for the viewer. You could probably crop in more, to make the more the center of interest.   Posted: 09/17/2020 10:26:11

I like your composition. The bottom of the fern has a slight halo effect on it, but the top and focus of the image are perfect. I like it on the back background as well. Apparently "dark" photography is trending!!   Posted: 09/17/2020 10:52:25

Beautiful image. Light on the top of the fern brings the eyes to your focal point which is very sharp. Good composition placing fern head on the crashing point of the rule of third and on the diagonal. Background complements the fern without distractions. I would remove the little piece of the fern at the bottom and side of the stem and perhaps consider cropping a little on the right side of the fern.   Posted: 09/17/2020 20:20:10

Very nice I like the darl background, and you can still see some details of the other ferns in the back. I would maybe crop just a bit off from the right.   Posted: 09/21/2020 09:30:54
