First Signs Of Spring by Jessica Manelis

About the Image(s)

My neighbor has this flowering tree (Dogwood?) growing in their yard. I went walking around the neighborhood looking for things to shoot last month. This is another tree that has a short flowering period and with the heavy winds and rain last month, the flowers fell off quickly! I shot this with my Nikon D700 and a 60 mm macro lens. I did very little post processing, just a slight crop and some content aware stuff to get rid of petal damage.

I am drawn right in to the bloom center which is your focal point. I like the blurred background very much. I think you could crop off some of the top of the frame to focus in even more on the detailed center.   Posted: 05/06/2020 10:05:39

My eyes are also drawn to the center of the bloom which appear to be very sharp. I like the blurry background. I think it is very dreamy.   Posted: 05/06/2020 11:04:41

Great subject and shape. Might you be able to crop the center of the flower out of the center of the picture? Although some pictures belong to be centered. One other improvement would be is to edit the background color to a darker one or such. It might bring the shapes of the petals out some more. Many Fibanocci angles. There's a good rule of thirds video on creatureartteacher.com. You can find it on YouTube also.

I like this Jessica, and I love the depth you've created with the blurred background. I like your composition.   Posted: 05/26/2020 20:24:15

I like the center is very nice and sharp. I might boost the saturation a bit.   Posted: 05/27/2020 14:46:23
