Butterfly by Jessica Manelis

August 2019 - Butterfly

About the Image(s)

I just took this at am arboretum near my house. Yes, I chased the butterfly around. It was hard to get up super close because there were restrictions on where you could walk. I didn't do a lot of processing. I cropped and did some adjustments in Lightroom. Shot with a Nikon D3300 and a 60mm macro lens.

Eastern tiger swallowtail. Great shot. I have not been able to find one stopped long enough to get a shot this year, although I have seen several. Might crop a little more at the bottom, but overall a great image.   Posted: 08/07/2019 16:56:18

It was tough to catch him. I have a variety of angles!!   Posted: 08/10/2019 08:19:26

Very pretty. I went to the butterfly biosphere a few months ago and found it very difficult to get sharp focus. I'll go back after school starts and try again. I like the processing a lot and can't offer any suggestions for improvement.   Posted: 08/08/2019 20:25:27

You were able to get good details and stop his motion. I would suggest cropping a little tighter and darkening down the background which is slightly distracting.   Posted: 08/14/2019 10:13:47

Thank you, Janis. I did not know what these butterflies were called. They are beautiful in an understated way.

I would crop a little from the bottom and try to darken the background a little with perhaps a curve adjustment.

Very nice butterfly image. The only thing I can think of maybe crop down a bit from the top, and bring down the highlight just a little.   Posted: 08/22/2019 16:12:03
