About the Image(s)

Many sailing boats were huddled within a harbor in Charleston, South Carolina, at the onset of a morning storm. I was looking for nautical image and liked the contrast of the vertical masts with the supports of the walkway. The splash of red on the roof of the harbor house and the blues and greens in the mast supports added wonderful splashes of color. I chose to make the clouds more menacing to create a mood. The painting was done in Topaz Studio. Tech info: f/9, 1/320 sec., 105mm focal length, center weighted average metering.

I love, love, love this image. The crop you chose allowed the two red roofed buildings to stand out. I love the added tonalities/drama that you added to the sky. And all the vertical lines of masts and pier posts really make this image for me. Great image.   Posted: 05/15/2022 09:27:08

Your camera composition was well done to highlight this image's vertical and horizontal subjects of interest. Your crop really helps to bring all in focus, too. The technique you used makes the verticals more interesting with their extra paint strokes and varied colors and the horizontal board walk and below a strong base for them. Nice image.   Posted: 05/15/2022 12:40:51

This is great Trey and very well done. It has both impact and style. Will make a great print on canvas.   Posted: 05/21/2022 03:42:45

The colors throughout are very uplifting, as are the repetitions of sailing masts pointing skyward. The tighter all-over cropping brought the subject close enough for additional added interest and Topaz enhanced it with wonderful painterly texture and warmer tones. And now the sky DOES appear more threatening, which supports your title very well. It's also a good thing that the effect did not remove the wonderful reflections you had captured.   Posted: 05/28/2022 15:43:12
