About the Image(s)

I took the picture of an elephant family trying to rescue an elephant calf that fell into a waterhole and struggling to get out. I cut out the background and replaced it with a suitable cloud formation to suit my elephant scene. I worked in PS cc in layers and different blend modes to achieve a reasonable end result.
All comments and or suggestions are most welcome. Thanking you all in anticipation.

Gerhard, I'm glad you explained what was going on in the photo. I like the new sky background a lot, as it keeps my focus on the animals. I like the warm tones of skin that you got from Photoshop, but to me, the sharply wrinkly look is just a bit too exaggerated in the final painting. I'd prefer it a little more natural, if you have a way to go back about half a step of sharpening. You succeeded in getting better detail in the dark shadows of both the one in front and the largest elephant, which I like.   Posted: 04/18/2021 13:35:30

I love the story that this image conveys. Your choice of cutting down the background hills and replacing the sky took this to an even higher level of the story. Those clouds and sky coloration lend an aura/halo around the elephant grouping, which is fantastic. I love the textures of the elephants and the shadows are opened nicely; I prefer these aspects over the original. Since the main elephant's head is so close to the top frame, I might crop a "bit" off the bottom to give the image more balance (but I would still aim to keep the horizon line off center). Wonderful painting.   Posted: 04/20/2021 10:57:29
