About the Image(s)

I painted this image entirely in PS with the Mixer Brush some time ago. Instead of using the mixer brushes on one layer and with freehand strokes (as done via “Beyond the Brushes”); this technique involved using an “underpainting” and then gradually building up the more detailed strokes and color. This was done by using the techniques of Jack Davis (I believe I had downloaded a course from Creative Live or Kelby). The Davis technique involved the use of presets and actions to add the brush strokes and color to the image. I do absolutely prefer the techniques and capabilities of Beyond the Brushes, but I think that the “haphazard” and messy strokes of the Davis protocol worked for this image.

For some reason, I really, really like this rendition! The colors are well mixed and I wonder where the travelers of yesteryear were going or coming back from. The paint strokes really make the image with the texture they give. Nicely done!   Posted: 04/12/2021 18:31:20

This is an unusual and fun look for a still life, Cindy! I love the way it turned out, with the painting running out into the white borders and the brush work on each suitcase and trunk. Even the colors look terrific here! This would make a great framed gift for a traveler (if there is such a thing nowadays). Oh, and the title is highly appropriate and goes along with the light-heartedness I feel when seeing this painting.   Posted: 04/18/2021 13:42:00
