About the Image(s)

A beautifully clouded October morning brightens the fall foliage along a placid North Lake in Waupaca County. The lake was a first stop on a backroads adventure to capture the autumnal beauty displayed in the county. The reflections especially the clouds added to the prospect of a nicely painted image. I did my standard PS and LR initial adjustments, then put it into TopazStudio for painting and finished with a Bluebell preset for more of a painterly feel. The image was shot at ISO 100, f/11, 1/30 second, +1 step, manual, pattern metering, 48mm.

I wish I had found this beautiful scenic backroad. The original help promise; it's your enhancements that brought this image to its full potential. The colors have really been given a "pop" and the brush strokes give the trees and clouds a sense of life and motion. And I absolutely love how the receding "V" in the images leads directly to that red tree and its reflection. The image is also very symmetrical; from both top to bottom and side to side - excellent. Your resultant painting is striking.   Posted: 11/13/2020 15:08:42

This scene was a winner in the original. You have certainly cashed in on the colors and brought out the full potential.
Very well done Trey.   Posted: 11/18/2020 05:47:55

I agree with Gerhard, that you started with an outstanding image. Your painting version really pops and highlights the colors.   Posted: 11/18/2020 15:47:02

Thank you, autumn in Wisconsin is a special time of year and the morning I took this was windless and I couldn't believe the clouds.   Posted: 11/21/2020 10:43:56

Now, THIS is the quintessential autumn shot! Great colors, great reflections, gorgeous clouds, to boot. Last week, we had plenty of color for a few days, but the trees are about bare now. You shot this at the perfect time and I like the way the trees look fluffier in the painting, once their colors are lightened and enhanced. Topaz Bluebell gave just the right amount of "paintiness" without interfering with our enjoyment of the reality of the scene. Super job, Trey.   Posted: 11/19/2020 20:28:16

Thanks Pat! The Bluebell can be touchy at times but when you want that canvas look, I really like it. I toyed with a 16x9 crop but that took off too many clouds to my eye. I also thought of removing the pontoon boat at right but I thought it gave some perspective.   Posted: 11/21/2020 10:47:06

I can never catch a lake this still! Your enhancements of the fall colours make this a classic. Well done.   Posted: 11/21/2020 13:00:55

Thanks so much Terry! I was lucky to catch it without wind. Three hours later there was a brisk wind!   Posted: 11/21/2020 13:49:24
