About the Image(s)

Back in late December 2012, we drove toward this long (and long-lasting) arch of color in the Smoky Mountains until we were nearly underneath it. The trees had a mid-winter drab gold appearance, so in my painting, I had wanted to restore their previous colorful leafy appearance to make it look like the rainbow had touched them with some brighter hues. The tool I used for that effect was Topaz Simplify--Painting--Harsh Color. All I did in Photoshop this time was downsize.

You saw the potential in using this amazing rainbow in a lovely enhanced painting. You masterfully added colorful leaves to make the scene pop. My only suggestion is to crop out the branches in the upper left, which I find distract from this painting,

I love what you have done to make this a more impactful image. What a difference your adjustments have made. The leaves are no longer drab, but take center stage. I agree with Elinor about cropping; my personal suggestion would be to crop out the left third of the image. This would leave the two stands of trees and would make the road more pronounced. Whether you choose to crop or not, this is a wonderful image. Well done.   Posted: 06/13/2020 09:37:28

The suggestions above are sound, but I rather like the branches on the left. They connect with the rainbow and act as a leading line into the image making it stand out a bit and keep my eye in the image . I did play around with a slight cropping though in my visual feedback . I personally feel the technique you used. It adds an interesting abstract quality to your image and brings more impact to it.   Posted: 06/24/2020 11:33:59

Thanks for your rendition, Nancy, to illustrate your comments. I do like that your version of the cropping still kept the arch of rainbow intact, but I think I would want to still keep most of the tree on the left (with its leaves)up a little higher in the sky. Maybe I could have just knocked a little bit off the top left corner (of tree leaves) and have the cloud bank extended up there, as in your version.   Posted: 06/24/2020 16:02:42

I didn't realize how much you can add thru Topaz! This is quite successful and I like the abstractness of it and the colors are anything but drab. I agree with the branch removal at top left improves the overall impact. Nice use of the roadway to bring the eye back to the rainbow.   Posted: 06/24/2020 18:15:09
