HOW BANJO-PLAYING TRAIN CONDUCTOR WAS CREATED--JAN 2020--PAT CENTENO

Shot on my iPhone during a fall trip through the Hiwassee River Gorge. I used 2 Topaz Impressions effects on 2 separate layers: first, Edward Hopper I, then above it, Cave Dweller II to emphasize the conductor and de-emphasize his audience. I even added a box blur to the top layer to get them to blend into the background better and vignetted the whole shebang, masking where necessary to keep him clearer.

Unfortunately, a glitch occurred with the original & I cannot correct it. As you will see it is on the side.

As a lover of trains this image struck a literal & figurative cord. The cropping at the base and the painted texture of the 2 blond women is excellent. There is just the right amount of painting in the conductor and his instrument. It is very effective. Your vignetting is the cherry on the top.
I love this painting.   Posted: 01/11/2020 09:11:44

You handled this masterfully, bringing our attention to the banjo player. I just wish his face was a little sharper. You really captured the spirit of a fun train ride.   Posted: 01/11/2020 20:17:01

I love that the background figures are blurred out. This definitely draws my attention to the conductor and his guitar. The two foreground "heads" set off the composition nicely. Well done.   Posted: 01/12/2020 09:46:37

Hi Pat, your composition is excellent and isn't it wonderful that with painting our Iphone images are perfect. The art effect is beautifully done and really tells a fun story. You handled the banjo player with just the right amount of sharpness and the viewers with just the right amount of blur. Very nice. There is one separation on the lower back of the conductor's vest. A soft brush would take care of this just fine.
Again, a wonderful painting   Posted: 01/15/2020 11:35:57
