About the Image(s)
Other than the effort of getting the shot of the kayaker, I admit I
didn't do anything fancy to this one. Wausau refers to the city in
Wisconsin where the races were held. The natural backgrounds there
were better than other places where I've gone to photograph this
sport. I wanted to use Alienskin Snap-Art instead of Topaz software
this time, for a watercolor effect on the water and trees. I chose a
"Vignette" sub-style of Watercolor and made slight adjustments to the
brush and effects. It was too soft, as though I had shot it out of
focus. In Photoshop, I masked some of the detail of the waves and
kayaker back in.

I find Topaz Impressions watercolor better.
Having said that your masking effect was effective, except I would have liked to see a bit more detail in the face of the Kyaker.   Posted: 06/06/2018 08:07:12
For me, the softness of the watercolor takes away the excitement of the rushing water.
The oar is the same color as the water in your painting and so maybe make it yellow so it stands out in relief.
I think it might help to crop a bit from the right and bottom to really help us focus on the kayaker as there is sooo much blurry water in the foreground.
The tree in the water by the pole confused me until I looked at the original. I thought... what is that tree doing in the middle of the water? With the clarity of the original, I could see it was a place where the tree base was hidden. Maybe take out that tree so that there's no confusion?   Posted: 06/16/2018 17:13:55
