The Street Party by Ron Clegg

May 2022 - The Street Party

About the Image(s)

The Street Party, was shot last summer in Chicago. My wife and I were walking on the other side of the street. When we saw all these people dressed in white having a street party outside a theater in down town Chicago. Except the lady in the blue shirt, passing by. I was not prepared, as I raised my camera to shoot I did not notice that my shutter speed was a bit slow to get it all sharp in the waning light available, until later that evening. So I added some Topaz creativity to it.

A fantastic capture! Posterization works so well and the blue shirted lady probably wishes she had dressed in white and joined the enjoyment. The vibrance of the celebration is clear and highlighted by your treatment of it!   Posted: 05/22/2022 10:19:47

Lots of activity! I like all the white clothes. It looks like you used a Topaz filter like "simplified underpainting" which removes some detail. That's a great idea in a shot so complex as this.   Posted: 05/24/2022 11:02:49

Ron,
Interesting shot, where you might argue that your real subject is the bustle and activity itself rather than the people individually (except the lady in blue, who does make a great counterpoint). I am not familiar with the Topaz tools you were playing with, but I can say if I were doing a shot like this I might user a slow shutter deliberately to produce an even more dramatic blurring to emphasize all the movement. Amazing how much pent up energy everyone had as the Covid restrictions started lifting.   Posted: 05/24/2022 17:26:16
