Looking Up by Ron Clegg

About the Image(s)

looking Up, was photographed in February 2019, at Kirk in The Hills church in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. They do not as a rule, allow photographers into the building who are not members. I happen to be a part of a small group of photographers, with an inside track to the administration of the facility. This image is the view ,looking straight up in the ante room before entering the main chapel of this beautiful building under the organ pipes. A light balancing nightmare. Nikon D750 ISO 280, Nikon 10.5 mm lens, f9 @ 3/4 sec.

Wow! Once again you've nailed a very difficult lighting challenge. To me the subtle purple and complementing gold is a feast for my eyes. The symmetry of leading lines to the ceiling is spectacular. You do this so well I'm going to get REALLY picky...You needed to move to your right about 6 to 12 inched to center the light fixture on the center beam of the ceiling. In your defense, I had to look hard to find that issue. Seriously, I wish I did this as well as you. Focus and exposure and white balance is spot on.   Posted: 05/15/2020 15:08:33

You are lucky to have the opportunity to have this shot. very nice. Did you make any adjustment at PS?   Posted: 05/15/2020 16:17:11

I did some dodging to enhance some details in the shadows. And some mild burning to improve the colors in the stain glass window, to bring out the details in the lighting fixture.   Posted: 05/15/2020 19:00:58

This is a very well composed image I see you used the 10mm lens but is this one shot or multiple shots. It is very sharp edge to edge. I always find myself being amazed at the crispness of your images. Well done. There is a camera or light on the right I would clone out it doesn't seem to go with the scene.   Posted: 05/17/2020 10:04:57

A feast for the eyes with so many shapes and patterns and the leading lines. Your successful handling of the lighting challenge brings out the beautiful purple accents and the stained glass above the organ pipes.   Posted: 05/19/2020 13:39:27

I love the complexity of the image with the attention drawn to the organ pipes! The 10.5 mm lens was perfect. The angles and patterns are beautiful as is the symmetry. Very nice!   Posted: 05/20/2020 06:02:54
