Sailing Into Sunrise by Matt Moses

October 2019 - Sailing Into Sunrise

About the Image(s)

Was up early a few Sundays ago so I headed to check on sunrise. I wasn't optimistic as previous day wasn't the best. When I got to my overlook I had amazing color all over the sky. While shooting that and working on a time lapse clip, the Aerial Lift Bridge went up as a ship was departing the Duluth Harbor.

The sunrise is beautiful with rich colors and an horizon set at an eye-appealing one-third down from the top. The green color on the aerial bridge lift bridge (which must be quite a sight itself) adds much to the interest of the image. The lights on the pier balance the sunrise. It would have been good if the ship had more lights on it but the darkness gives it a certain spookiness which is interesting. Well done!   Posted: 10/10/2019 12:40:38

Sometimes an image takes my breath away. This time it drew me in and slowly drained me emotionally. I am blown away by the story/stories this image tells. To me it is cold and lonely with the prospect of adventure and separation from family. I suppose my perspective is tainted by 21 years in the military. It tells the story and if there is a technical flaw (I see none), I don't care. The more I look at this image, the more I like what it tells me. In my opinion someone could write a book about the story this image tells. Wow! Just wow.   Posted: 10/20/2019 07:51:06

I really like the detail in this image. The colors are muted but accurate, the story her is the freighter leaving the port in the early morning hours, wonder where its going.   Posted: 10/29/2019 14:14:07
