Early Morning Light by Dale Yates

October 2019 - Early Morning Light

About the Image(s)

This low key black and white photo was taken a couple of years ago while in a local park. The image is of the Huron River during the early morning hours. The light rays were prominent as well as a little fog on the river. I wanted to convert this to black and white to emphasize the contrasts between the light and the trees along the river. For this photograph I used an aperture of f/16 with a shutter speed of 1/100 of a second, ISO 400, and a focal length of 61mm. This photo was taken in RAW format. Post processing in Lightroom, includes adjustments to exposure and contrast, highlights and shadows, and overall sharpness. I then utilized Photoshop to access NIK Silver Efex Pro to convert to black and white.

There are times when I look at a picture and wonder what the photographer was trying to do. Not only did you tell us, you nailed it. In my opinion the contrast is spot on for your goal. The focus looks sharp and the light shafts are well emphasized. In my opinion the depth of field is appropriate and helps to showcase the light. Well done.   Posted: 10/05/2019 17:19:42

Very nicely done! The contrast is perfect, showing the low-lying fog brightly and the streams of light so well. The leaves look sharp and nicely dappled with light. The streams of light are well framed by the opposing trees. Very appealing image.   Posted: 10/10/2019 13:11:11

Beautiful! Peaceful. Love the light streams and how it plays on the water. Great focus, composition and exposure.   Posted: 10/10/2019 22:40:21
