Fishing Eagle by Ron Clegg

August 2019 - Fishing Eagle

About the Image(s)

Fishing Eagle was shot at the same location as last month's image. This Eagle was flying slowly about 15-20mph, looking for ripples/ movement less than two feet above the surface. This shot was the second pass over the area. I was trying to get the reflection the bird and some of background all sharp at the same time. Nikon D750 ISO 1600, 1/2000 @ f22

This is a beautiful image. It is the shot I think every photographer wants to get just once in a lifetime. It looks sharp and properly composed. Even the reflection is sharp. I like that you kept enough of the surrounding environment to add authenticity. For me there were two composition/cropping options. The other was to crop close to emphasize the eagle and it reflection a bit more. In my opinion you're about half a second late. You need just a bit of separation of the reflection from the pond scum. It's a definite wall hanger. Well done.   Posted: 08/06/2019 15:46:46

It is a magnificent image! To capture a bald eagle like that is a real treat. I agree that tighter cropping might help and also think that reducing the highlights in the swamp and upper area of the photo might be a plus. Here's a try:   Posted: 08/07/2019 08:17:28

I like the tighter crop, thanks. I'm sure I can move some pond scum out of the way. I have a few more shots of the same flight shooting at 12 frames/ second.   Posted: 08/07/2019 18:14:32

Great catch. I do like the tighter cropping and the idea of moving some pond scum to better highlight the bald eagle in flight.   Posted: 08/10/2019 11:39:28

Amazing image. I also like the tighter crop. There's not much more I could ever add to this. Great shot   Posted: 08/18/2019 00:05:06

Personally for this I'd love a tighter crop but otherwise wow, what a gorgeous reflection of this great bird!   Posted: 08/28/2019 08:17:01
