About the Image(s)
I went back to my black and white roots for this month’s image. I really like the strong contrasts, curves, and mystery of the image. It’s not readily apparent what it is - sand dunes at Great Sand Dunes National Park in southwestern Colorado. (Who would think that Colorado has the largest sand dunes in the United States?) After basic processing in Lightroom, I used Nik SilverEfex for the monochrome conversion.

Brenda, I did get the impression of sand dunes, thinking first that you were not in Colorado. Nice study of curves and contrasts. You successfully created mystery. One small part bothers me because it strays from the flow. It's the jagged black piece and the pointed sharp white below it. I enjoyed viewing and wondered after the fact if you encountered whales.   Posted: 02/08/2021 18:42:26
Oh, I see the area you mean. I'll work on that a little. Thanks.   Posted: 02/08/2021 21:27:41
Nice. I tried sand dunes last winter in Death Velley.
Was it windy? I don't see any of the sand ripple I was expecting.   Posted: 02/08/2021 20:26:08

I've been there when the wind was blowing like crazy, but this time was very calm. It was a nice change, though I do like the ripples.   Posted: 02/08/2021 21:26:17

Really like this image. Reminds me of some bodyscapes. I'd just smooth out the 'thorn' on the middle left side   Posted: 02/09/2021 04:14:32

This is really lovely. The forms work so well together as a black and white. I'm thinking that seeing a bit more of the values might be interesting as well, so i played with it in lightroom and cropped it.... Just another part of your story. It is a wonderful image no how you look at it. This is just one of the many stories within a grand image.   Posted: 02/16/2021 11:16:35
Great idea, thanks! I like that version, too.
