Astromoical Clock Vienna by Rusty Pinckney

November 2019 - Astromoical Clock Vienna

About the Image(s)

I shot this image with my Canon Power Shot SX10IS on a rainy day in Vienna, Austria while on a walking tour. The clock was very near St. Stephen's Cathedral. Used Elements to bring out the colors in the clock, then removed distraction and maneuvered the crop tool for a final touch.

Hi Rusty - nice photo. I like the colors.
I see a few minor things to look at. The photo is not perfectly straight. Look at the line under the dragon at the bottom. I might have cropped out some of the space on the right. I don't think that space adds much to the photo.
This could be one of those photos where there are lots of pictures within the picture. I like the dragon on the bottom, the figures in the clock, and the sun on top.   Posted: 11/07/2019 09:42:27

What an amazing clock with so many intriguing elements. I'm thinking that selecting some parts of the clock would be exciting. Saying that, all i could bear to do, as I'm enjoying all the details so much, was to crop your image a bit, and change the perspective a bit.. and give it a vignette. What do you think?   Posted: 11/15/2019 19:45:34

This has fabulous detail and, as others have said, would make lots of great shots taken from the overall image. The additional cropping that Arabella did eliminated the distractions and unnecessary part of the shot.   Posted: 11/16/2019 08:48:59

Thank you Dan, Brenda and Arabella. You give me an idea for a collage.Arabella addressed the issue of "off kliter". I was struggling with this.   Posted: 11/16/2019 12:18:44

Hi Rusty
I really like this shot. The only thing I struggle with is symmetry. I prefer architectural shots to be symmetrical with the verticals vertical. In saying that super colours and detail and it's sharp in all the right places   Posted: 11/17/2019 12:02:49

What an incredible find, Rusty, and such exquisite detail in your capture!

There was a bit of perspective problem because of the angle you captured this from. Using Free Transform to rotate and correct that helps. There is also an area on the left that is cloudy - perhaps some moisture on the lens? This can be corrected with some dodging and burning and targeted contrast.

I took the liberty of cropping tight, like Arabella did, and removing the background, as I so often do, to further help the details of this clock pop. What do you think?   Posted: 11/21/2019 08:11:49

Tom, I like it. That blurred area is moisture. I noticed it and for lack of time did not correct it. The new background and a the clock pop. Thank you.
