Weeding for FareStart by Dan DeVries

August 2019 - Weeding for FareStart

About the Image(s)

I did a volunteer photoshoot for an organization called FareStart. They help fight hunger in the Seattle area.

This photo was taken at a gleaning event - where local farmers let FareStart pick extra crops in their fields which goes to local homeless shelters. Volunteers also help with weeding of the fields - as this young boy was doing.

Shot with Canon 5D3, 200mm, f5.6, ISO 320, 1/800. I cropped the original down just a bit. It was a slightly overcast morning.

Wonderful shot of a child gardening. I would like to see more of his face though his eyes say a lot. Suggest cropping out some of the left side.   Posted: 08/13/2019 23:46:44

The boy grabs attention due to his face and bright orange shirt. I like the out-of-focus leaves in the foreground which anchor the image. But I'd like them to be darker. Actually, I'd try a vignette all around. And I agree with Rusty that some of the left side could be cropped.   Posted: 08/15/2019 16:33:31

Yes, a bit of cropping, a subtle vignette, and some brightening of the boy's eyes:   Posted: 08/16/2019 00:41:37

Thanks for the input. This was another shot of the boy and his mom. Do you like this one better?   Posted: 08/22/2019 12:36:25

It is a charming photo. All the comments look to be relevant and helpful. But for me it is lovely just the way it is.   Posted: 08/23/2019 11:03:04
