About the Image(s)

I shot this image with my Canon Power Shot SX10IS while visiting Northland Arboretum in Minnesota. This beautiful butterfly landed on a nearby plant, and I hastily captured its image. Post edited using Elements. The distracting flora presented a challenge. I included the original to illustrate the challenge. Not sure about the end result. Suggestions?

So difficult to do! The flower and the butterfly are beautifully sharp and the colors are true. Hard to do the editing without smudging the outline of the butterfly.   Posted: 10/10/2018 11:09:52

you are right. its really difficult to process . Need lots of time to make it nearly perfect :)   Posted: 10/10/2018 11:27:35

Good capture and an uphill battle for post-processing. Here's my suggestion (and result):

1. Copy the image and use the Quick Select tool to select the butterfly and flower it's on.
2. Add a Layer Mask based on that selection.
3. Using your brush tool, clean up the mask as much as possible with black to conceal and white to reveal.
4. Press Ctrl and click on the Layer Mask to select your finished mask.
5. On the original layer, do Edit -> Fill -> Content-Aware.
6. Then do Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur (or Box Blur) to taste.

The more work you do on the mask, the better your result will be and will look more natural.   Posted: 10/16/2018 12:38:20

Nice photo. I agree with Tom on the post processing work/path.   Posted: 10/16/2018 13:41:07

That is indeed a difficult image to work on. Tom did a great job with the processing. I like the orange/purple contrast.   Posted: 10/16/2018 18:27:56

Truth be told I did not like my original crop. :)   Posted: 10/23/2018 16:29:58
