About the Image(s)

The Robberg Peninsular in South Africa has a dramatic and wild coastline offering up stunning vistas. We have been here many times in all seasons. On this occasion i liked the contrast between the beach blooms and the sandy beach below…it was very atmospheric with the sea mist rolling in. I shot it with my 16-35mm lens and for post i put a skylight filter on in ColorEfex Pro.

This is a nice documentary image of the landscape and atmosphere in the area. I like the foreground subject and how it shows the diversity of the location. I would like to see a little more room between the mountains and the edge of the frame. To me it seemed the image was flat. I took it out to ON1 2021 and added some dynamic contrast to the foreground and lightened the image a bit. I think the three people in the image add a nice sense of perspective. I also cropped a slight bit at the bottom and removed the big divot in the left corner.   Posted: 04/12/2021 12:26:19

Thanks Pamela and yes i felt also that more room was needed at the top of the image for the mountains. I wish i had taken that into account when i took the photo! Cropping the divot out also good..i should have noticed that so thanks!   Posted: 04/12/2021 16:22:28

I agree with the top of the image but a simple fix is available in PS. With the crop tool, add some space to the top and check content aware fill. On an image like this it should work perfectly. I like the scene and the atmospherics.   Posted: 04/12/2021 18:04:37

I agree with Mike and Pamela regarding the need for more sky space along the top of the image. I also think you might want to try removing the human figures -- to me they are a distraction.   Posted: 04/14/2021 15:49:25

I like Pamela's suggestion. The colors do pop more. It is an interesting shot, and I like the people in the scene. They give proportion and add to the story.   Posted: 04/15/2021 07:31:24

I am someone who almost always notices color as the first element in an image, and the soft tones in this images are lovely in my opinion. I think the suggestions that have been made to get a little more contrast i.e., "pop" in the color are spot on. I also like the additina of a bit more sky as it feels more balanced to me that way. I think the people add to the scene - they are so tiny that it gives me a feeling for the vastness of this landscape. I see you are familiar with Color Efex Pro, so I wonder if you have tried Refletor Effects? There is one choice in that which would allow you to add some gold to the foreground. I don't know if that would be an imporvement or not, but it might be worth a try.   Posted: 04/15/2021 09:51:08
