About the Image(s)

In this image of a Lotus Blossom, I set black and white points then tried to weave in the background using cloning and healing brush. I like the leaves in the background and think they compliment the lotus. Finally, I added a curves adjustment to brighten the lotus a bit.

Very pretty and the flower is in perfect shape and a real beauty. I think the dark lower right corner balances the upper left but I would crop a bit off the top, still leaving the flower room to "breathe" but removing some of the more distant leaves. Pretty!   Posted: 01/09/2021 15:51:43

I see what you are saying and will work with that idea.   Posted: 01/09/2021 16:30:34

I think it's a pretty flower and a good exercise in working with your tools. The lower right where you blackened the leaf has some artifacting on the edges that makes the post-work a bit obvious. You might want to play a bit with pulling out all the leaves in the background and then adding in just one or two to see if that creates a more interesting composition.   Posted: 01/10/2021 22:32:55

It's so hard to find an unblemished flower but you hit the jackpot. I like how you balanced the flower with the leaves and dark areas. My only suggestion is similar to Mike's in either cropping a little more at he top or using an adjustment brush to tone down the foliage at the top right. I like the background leaves as they go out of focus but the yellowish spot and the vertical light stem are distracting.   Posted: 01/11/2021 15:27:29

This is a beautiful lotus and i like how the petals softly fall outwards. Great colour too without being overdone with your Curves tool. I agree with Mike about a slight crop off the top to give the Lotus more focus. Nice image.   Posted: 01/13/2021 17:12:04

This is a beautiful specimen. I never get tired of Lotus images. I think the others have given you some interesting suggestions to try. Let me jump in with one more. I think I might try to pull down the mid-tones to make a very dark, almost Black background.Be careful to mask the effect on the stem so that it does no cause teh flower to appear as if it is floating in space.   Posted: 01/14/2021 10:47:19

I smiled when I read your critique, Sharon. I have been with this group long enough that when I think about what I might do, I hear John's asking me what is the star of the image? Mike often suggests vignettes. You like a square crop and dark background for a flower. I almost used that idea except that I like the curve of the leaves on the side of the flower and wasn't sure if black would be the answer. But I'm open to all critiques and will try all suggestions to see how they work. I plan to use this for a competition so appreciate all ideas.   Posted: 01/14/2021 11:42:36

I have taken into consideration the comments given. I've redone the lotus with a black background and with a bit of the leaf I liked. Comments?   Posted: 01/15/2021 20:58:25
