Deer at Battery Potter by Lynne Royce

February 2021 - Deer at Battery Potter

About the Image(s)

"Hi Dave, preparing for possible 15+ inches of snow tonight and tomorrow which for Jersey Shore is a lot. Here is my pix, etc, Lynne"

DEER AT BATTERY POTTER: While driving around Sandy Hook National Sea Shore Park, NJ, last week saw 3 young deer grazing in field. While always fun to photograph wanted a pix of them against one of the park's historic buildings. When they headed off I hoped they would go about a quarter of a mile away so could get pix of them against Battery Potter. Drove car up and down several roads and when arrived Battery Potter there they were. Wish come true. Silently crept up and caught this photograph. Processed in Snapseed.

Combination of wildlife and history...interesting especially to this Oregonian. Good luck with the snow storm. I assume you have a good blower?   Posted: 02/02/2021 17:12:00

A very interesting photo in the calm before the storm! We got your 15 inches here in central PA and you probably got clobbered. The lines in the building make a nice frame for the deer. There is also a sort of war and peace narrative here that really works.   Posted: 02/03/2021 10:37:34

What an interesting Historic building and then to have the 3 deer grazing in front really makes for a story telling photo. Love the colors and tonality. Jerry   Posted: 02/04/2021 10:01:52

Agree with Jerry, a story telling moment. All the different textures make for a very interesting image. Good eye!   Posted: 02/05/2021 17:42:13

I love photographing these old battery installations. I was at one here in WA last Friday. The contrast between the big artillery shells and the peaceful deer grazing is striking. I'm glad the deer were so cooperative. It would be fun to go back and do it again in the snow. Your patience paid off.   Posted: 02/08/2021 14:08:22

Great capture! Having deer in the scene adds a lot to what might have been just an interesting historical shot. I like the end result of your edits, too. Nice shot.

Well done image and the deer make a very interesting subject for this. Once in a long while we photographers get lucky.   Posted: 02/19/2021 05:55:06
