Ocotillo in Bloom by Dave Edwards

January 2021 - Ocotillo in Bloom

About the Image(s)

The Ocotillo is not technically a cactus. It does appear dead for long periods of time and then suddenly bloom these bright red flowers.

Dave, you are really off to a great start. Beautiful image. I really like the foreground sprig and blossoms so task sharp and the rest very soft. This is great portrait image. Wonderful colors! Love the Mountains off in the background. Ocotillo is now to me. Jerry   Posted: 01/05/2021 09:44:41

As Jerry points out, the soft parts of the image give it context. Cropping all that out would make a nice flower image, but a less interesting photo.   Posted: 01/07/2021 16:34:02

Nice use of color and bokeh. The soft, neutral background keeps my eyes on the blossoms. Nice sharp focus on the blossoms, too. Good representation of where you are in contrast to anyone in more northern regions.

A beautiful flower, tack sharp and nice soft background. I'm torn between cropping off the stem on the left or leaving it. I would clone out the little bit of red flower on the top left border.   Posted: 01/11/2021 16:19:38

Great color with good blur in background.Could you clone out the sprig at the upper left which is in front of the sky? small detail but it strike me as a distraction.   Posted: 01/12/2021 12:08:47

Extremely sharp and beautifully focused detail of Ocotillo bloom with its desert like background gently blurred telling the story of this rare beauty that appears mostly dead year round.   Posted: 01/15/2021 16:50:14
