Trinidad Bean & Elevator by Robert Barley

October 2020 - Trinidad Bean & Elevator

About the Image(s)

I thought the rail-fans in our Group might like this shot of a static display. I don't have any details about why it is where it is, but it is just a few yards from several sets of active tracks. The building in the distance says "Trinidad Bean & Elevator Company" - although that isn't very legible in this downsized version.

If anyone has a recommendation for a resizing app, please share it. I use "Resize It" and I'm not always happy with the results. Thanks!

Love old trains! The roof is very bright, but still contains texture. Bravo. It looks like the old train is right up against the road? So glad you kept all the power lines and everything in the photo. What is the town or city that this is located? We have the Illinois Railroad Museum located about 35 miles from us in Union, Illinois. Great placed for a photo shoot. Did you shoot in B/W or convert the image in what app?   Posted: 10/04/2020 06:33:58

Thank you for your kind words about this image. This display is in northeastern Colorado, on the east edge of Greeley - and you are correct, it is right up against a paved surface. I shot the scene in color and then converted it to BW using Snapseed.   Posted: 10/13/2020 10:56:19

I got into photography in order to take pictures of boxcars to model for my model railroad. Thanks to that experience I got hooked on images. Personally I love these images in Black and white. Nicely done.   Posted: 10/04/2020 19:04:20

I'm a train lover also, especially old ones showing their years. I love that you used B&W. Not seeing the original one doesn't know how much color there was in the scene or if it was already pretty monochromatic. A nice representation of a place and time in railroad history.
I use iResize but it doesn't show the size of the image I resize in Mb so I'm always hoping it meets the 1Mb requirement after I resize.   Posted: 10/11/2020 10:57:21

Thank you for your kind response to this shot. There were some decent colors including some rust, but I thought the BW version added additional age.

I'll look at iResize. Thanks for the suggestion.   Posted: 10/13/2020 11:39:30

Monochrome works perfectly for this image and captures the battered sides of this hard working train. The bean and elevator company, gloomy sky and telephone poles and lines tell a story. Well seen and captured. Found excellent resizing app which I describe in comment under my section image.   Posted: 10/13/2020 08:47:37

Thank you for your kind comments on my image. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing it.

In regard to the Resize app, thank you for the help with it. However when I looked at the App Store, I found several apps that use those same words in the title. If you could, it would be helpful if you could name the developer, too. Some of the apps have really bad reviews, so I want to get the right one.

Thanks

Hi Bob, developer is Codenia
It's a Swiss company and you can reach them at support@codenia.com if have questions before purchase. I use Android and believe can also use for Apple but support will resolve that. Hope it works for you. I got the free app with ads and not issue so far. Only had it for a day but worked quickly and effortlessly for me. No instructions. Got to look at options above image and decide how want to determine results. I picked 11x14 photo size wanted printed. Hope works for you, Lynne   Posted: 10/13/2020 11:05:56

I like the way my eye wants to run down the entire length of the train. The overhead wires perhaps could come out? I also have issues with resizing and sometimes I do it in PS. Hope that's not cheating but until an app makes it easy and predictable,I see no other way.   Posted: 10/22/2020 15:28:17
