Tree Stump As Art by Sol Blechman

August 2020 - Tree Stump As Art

About the Image(s)

This stump was far off in a field on a hillside. I'd have preferred to shoot up the hill to simplify the background but couldn't do it. This was cropped about 50% and processed in Snapseed using the Straighten, Brush, Healing , Details and Structure commands. And the Frame.

Using a 50% crop, the image still help up fairly well. Positioning the tree in the final image is always a big decision for me? How much sky? How far to the left to put the tree? Great memory shot. The yellow wild flowers really make the image.   Posted: 08/02/2020 08:46:21

I love images of trees and stumps and this one is lovely. Would knocking the bright light on the stump add a bit of punch?   Posted: 08/04/2020 09:53:24

Yikes! What remains of this tree looks like something out of a sci fi movie. The image shows a lot of depth from the flowers back to the clouds at the horizon. Once again, you have an eye for the unusual. What was your first thought when you saw this stump?   Posted: 08/04/2020 15:26:36

I thought at first The Sentinel might be a good title.   Posted: 08/04/2020 22:05:44

What an interesting old tree! Lots of textures and shapes in the trunk which are in nice contrast to the bright yellow flowers. I image that tree is a good resting place for birds, too. Good find.

Interesting contrast. The jagged stark tree trunk looks like something created for Halloween juxtaposed against cheerful field of yellow flowers and bright blue sky. Superb composition.   Posted: 08/10/2020 07:46:34

This would be a great perch for a hawk or eagle to survey the surrounding area for a meal. The yellow flowers really add to the composition. The image held up nicely with such a big crop. Do you have one of the newer phones with a better camera?   Posted: 08/11/2020 16:48:29

I'm using an iphone 10 now. My crop did damage the sharpness some so that was a compromise. BTW, have any of you checked out the camera that seems to be coming on the soon to be released model 12? Very interesting.   Posted: 08/11/2020 18:37:31
