Sonoran Desert Rain by Dave Edwards

May 2020 - Sonoran Desert Rain

About the Image(s)

This the first time in 20 plus years that I experienced rain in the Sonoran Desert. This was not going to stop me from hiking. I tucked the iPhone into my rain coat pocket and headed out on the trail. I managed to capture a few images between the raindrops. I took the low angle on this image and placed the several barrel cacti in the foreground to add depth. Image taken at Usery Mountain Regional Park, Mesa, Arizon.

Very nice Dave. Sure glad you did not let a rain stop you from getting this neat image. I like the wonderful foreground. I have found that using the regular iPHONE lens or even the new 11 Pro super wide lens that getting up and close to a foreground object and aiming the camera down about 45 degrees you get a real neat effect.

I love fog. It simplifies the background in your image. One little spot on the left edge distracts my eye. I would think about using Touch/Retouch and clone in some vegetation or just crop it off.

I need to keep reminding my self, that some of my best photos are in the worst weather conditions.   Posted: 05/02/2020 10:04:10

I like this image just as it is since it shows a view I have never seen.
The little bit of path on the left does not bother me. If I wanted to quibble I'd be more bothered by the chopped off cactus on the right, but that is really a quibble about a lovely image.   Posted: 05/06/2020 20:19:00

I love your composition with the barrel cactus in the foreground and the triangle made by the two saguaro cactus in the background. I think the fog really adds a moodiness to the image. Your trek in the bad weather paid off.   Posted: 05/07/2020 17:14:40

Really nice desert image. The composition is great with the large cactus in front, the shrubs and cactus in the middle and the mountains with mist in the distance. Good stuff. Always good to see spring blooms after the long winter! Nice shot.

A rainy/foggy day in the desert is unusual and that shows in the image. The foreground cactus with red give a sense of depth.   Posted: 05/13/2020 16:05:10

Glad to see the path on the left as otherwise ouch as those barrel cacti have mean looking thorns. You captured an interesting scene of rainy spring day in Arizona park with the yellow flowers offsetting rare rainy day gloom. Excellent composition with assortment of cactus against foggy mountain background giving viewers true sense of nature in the Mesa park. Doesn't look like friendly hiking landscape.   Posted: 05/14/2020 09:20:56
