Portland Head Lighthouse by Jerry Hug, APSA

January 2020 - Portland Head Lighthouse

About the Image(s)

Old image and forget which early iPhone I used. Re-worked the image in Snaoseed. Darkened a bit and added the light in the lighthouse with Lens Distortion app. I sharpened areas in Snapseed and blurred the sky. Used Touch Retouch to take out a few distractions in the foreground with the clone tool.

A beautiful image Jerry. Putting the light in the lighthouse really adds an exclamation point to the image. Great dof. I like the foreground rocks that anchor and lead your eye into the composition. An image that belongs on the wall.   Posted: 01/09/2020 12:16:36

Jerry, I remember when you took this shot at the PSA South Portland conference and used it in your Iphoneography presentation including an 11X14 print made the previous day at a nearby store. It was effective then and is now too!

Pam, I know he has at least one print of this if you can pry it away from him to hang on your wall!   Posted: 01/09/2020 14:47:40

Excellent photo. Everything is perfect, the composition, exposure, and sharpness. Nicely done.   Posted: 01/10/2020 09:18:21

As the others have said, it is a great composition of an iconic scene. If I had a suggestion, I might say the the foreground seems a little too bright and distracts from the main subject. I'd darken the rocks in front and brighten the area around the lighthouse.   Posted: 01/10/2020 20:05:59

Adding the light made a huge difference. Good for you to know how to do this on the phone. Perfect scenic image ready for calendar use.   Posted: 01/13/2020 07:00:30
