Winter by Bob Barley

January 2020 - Winter

About the Image(s)

A frosty winter's day. The frostiness was increased in Snapseed with the curves tool. I thought the reflections in the water and the clouds in the sky added interest.

Yes the reflections are wonderful. I totally agree. Like the image very much.

Before you print a big image of this beauty, consider using the clone tool in Touch/Retouch and taking out a little of the clutter in the bottom right corner. The upper right is ok or remove a little bit? Just and idea.   Posted: 01/01/2020 11:02:15

A beautiful winter image with the blue tones increasing the feeling of it being cold. Without walking on water or in the water it's often hard to get some things out of the frame. I didn't really see the little grasses in the bottom right at first. Love the reflection.   Posted: 01/09/2020 12:27:47

This image is a perfect reflection of the sort of winter we are having so far, cold and no snow. Nicely done.   Posted: 01/09/2020 14:49:53

You definitely bring out the "frosty day" appearance. I didn't notice the plants in the lower right hand corner until Jerry brought it out. The reflection works well for this image. I was just curious if adding a bit of contrast and making the image slightly darker would improve the quality. Not sure, does that ruin the frosty look of the image???   Posted: 01/10/2020 09:36:58

Thanks, Dave, for the suggestion. I think the slightly bright, slightly desaturated appearance is what I wanted. In my opinion, it adds to the frosty feel - almost like the image is slightly frosted over.   Posted: 01/10/2020 20:09:54

I like it a lot and think the reflection adds to the impact. Usually reflections are a bit darker so you could easily accomplish that. The waterway curves so nicely into the image. The fact that there are really only 3 colors keeps what could have been confusing simpler.   Posted: 01/13/2020 07:13:33

This is a spectacular photograph. Everything just works. The silhouette of the tree is beautifully reflected in the water. The blue sky and puffy clouds make a soothing background and love the frosty fall grass. I would print , frame and hang on my wall as cheerful, peaceful scene.   Posted: 01/14/2020 14:58:36
