The Pink Church by Pamela Hoaglund

October 2019 - The Pink Church

About the Image(s)

I have been on a WA to MI road trip with my sister this past week and while crossing eastern Montana I noticed this building on the hill. I told my sister that the building intrigued me and I wanted to check it out. As we got closer and drove into the road there was a sign that said it was the “Pink Church”. It’s on an Indian reservation. I haven’t had a chance to explore the history yet. There was a grave yard on the east side of the church. Just a little editing in Snapseed.

It's a good thing you were able to stop and shoot this location. I like the isolated feeling of the old church on the hill. I like the composition and the dramatic sky. My only suggestion is that the "pink church" isn't very pink so maybe turning down the warmth, or using curves to increase the blue a bit, might increase the pink.   Posted: 10/05/2019 11:25:09

A very simple subject in this photo that screams for your attention. Warm hues are very soothing to the eye.   Posted: 10/05/2019 19:26:20

The shuttered windows and dry unmowed grasses give the church an abandoned look that perhaps mirrors the religion it housed. Darkening the clouds a bit might add a sense of foreboding that could be interesting as well.   Posted: 10/08/2019 14:10:19

Your composition is excellent capturing all interesting aspects and perfectly placing them in scene to create a strong, interesting photograph . The coloring of sky, church and grass make photograph more powerful.   Posted: 10/16/2019 16:42:19
