Catching Some Rays by Sol Blechman

September 2019 - Catching Some Rays

About the Image(s)

Found this guy on an early morning walk. You can see from sun’s angle how early it was. I think it was just waking to warm up some. All regular Snapseed processing. Tried a couple head on shots too. Hardest part was gettin up!

I do understand the issues of Getting Up of the Ground!

Nice side lighting good colors of the Dragonfly. His/Her wings could have been a little wet which gave you time to get so close.

Did you use the telephoto lens to help capture the image?

No telephoto, Jerry. Still, I was only about 10-12 inches away.   Posted: 09/01/2019 14:24:26

How did you expose this to get the transparency of the wings against the bright background?   Posted: 09/02/2019 20:26:56

There was no special action on the exposure. I did take a couple of other shots using the exposure box on the phone but it didn't really help. I think the Structure slider in Snapseed helped on the wings.   Posted: 09/03/2019 14:12:01

It's a coincidence that I saw the exact same scene a few days ago. I looked at the critter for a bit, wondering if it was alive. You were able to get a sharp close-up with good shadows and bright areas so we can see the wings and body details. Good job.   Posted: 09/04/2019 09:27:07

Once again, you photograph scenes I would simply pass by. You were able to capture a lot of detail in the dragonfly. This image would fit nicely in a entomology book.   Posted: 09/04/2019 10:47:57

An amazing image that really shows how transparent and delicate the wings are on a dragonfly. I never find them sitting so still. Being out early is the key. Nice shot.   Posted: 09/04/2019 23:00:37

Well this photograph inspires me to get up early and check for dew covered insects in my garden. Structure did good job of defining intricacy of dragonfly wings. Good capture.   Posted: 09/09/2019 11:20:57
