Shadow and Light by Lorna Zaback

October 2020 - Shadow and Light

About the Image(s)

In the courtyard in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, there is a raised platform with a railing that cast interesting (and ever changing, depending on the angle of the sun) shadows on the pavement. I didn't send in a colour original - this is pretty much how it looked straight out of the camera.
I know this image will not be to everyone's taste, but I thought I would submit it anyway.
Fujifilm X-T10 with 18 - 135 mm f/3.5 - 5 lens. 59 mm 1/950 sec at f/9 ISO 500

Shooting shadows without showing the original object is a fascinating study. One not only thinks about the nature of the original object, but they are interesting patterns in themselves, as you point out.
Suggestion: shoot a bunch more of these at different times, and different conditions, and make a collection for showing.   Posted: 10/12/2020 00:14:45

Interesting idea, Stephen. Thanks. I do have several versions of these patterns (different angles, some with people) - I will have to think about that.   Posted: 10/20/2020 22:22:43
