About the Image(s)

Taken at 1/500 sec at f5.6 ISO 1250 400 mm.

I rarely take pictures of birds but with the current problem and with my camera rusting in the cupboard I thought I would give it a go.

I'm glad you gave it a go! This is a nice bird portrait with excellent details and a wonderful catch-light in the eye. It looks like you were standing right next to him. The color version is nice as well. The dark background really sets the bird off nicely. I like the green leaves in the color version, however, I find the leaves a little distracting in the monochrome background. It looks like this early bird didn't catch the worm next to it!   Posted: 09/07/2020 12:23:14

David, great bird shot. That 400 mm is perfect. Here is just another iteration of a great photograph. I added a black vignette to darken the leaves.   Posted: 09/10/2020 13:52:24

I think Cindy is on to something about the leaves. To me they are a distraction. The bird is so bright and the contrasting background set it off quite well. Then there is that little annoyance in the leaves. Anything you can do to darken the leaves will greatly elevate the quality of this already fine image.   Posted: 09/25/2020 13:19:25

Thanks for your comments Larry. Although I hadn't responded to Cindy I had taken note and produced the attached.   Posted: 09/26/2020 04:40:03
