Lace Curtains by Cindy Lynch

About the Image(s)

This was a dilapidated house in Barbados. As soon as I spotted it, I thought the window would look great as a monochrome image. I brightened the curtains a bit and adjusted the overall tone contrast and details. Settings: f/5.6, 1/500 sec., ISO 100 and 78 mm focal length.

Hope you are staying healthy!

Agree with mono potential. Great contrast between the curtains and peeling paint on the siding and window trim. Ever think about a square image with window dead center? Great powerful image.

Thank you, Karl. I think a square crop would work!   Posted: 05/06/2020 11:13:09

I think you had a very good eye. I like the peeling paint and the curtains. A square crop would be interesting as long as you leave some peeling paint in. I really cannot suggest any improvement.   Posted: 05/07/2020 21:43:46

Yes, a great subject for monochrome! I really like the combination of textures - the lacy curtains, the peeling wood, the delicate foliage. I also like that you have lightened the curtains and upped the contrast - it gives the image a richness and brings a certain almost eeriness to the scene. I could go with a square crop on this, or not - I like that we can see so much of that heavily textured siding.   Posted: 05/08/2020 21:25:22

You have made a good job of processing this image and although we don't have a colour version I am sure mono is more appropriate. I don't mind that it is not square cropped.   Posted: 05/15/2020 06:48:53
