Magnolia Flower by Cindy Lynch

July 2017 - Magnolia Flower

About the Image(s)

Settings: f/3.5, 1/200 sec., ISO 100 and focal length 22 mm (16-300 lens). This flower was from a small magnolia tree in my backyard. I liked the way the pieces fell into the petal. I used Nik Color Efex and Viveza for details and contrast and Nik Silver Pro for converting it to monochrome. I left some of the background foliage visible to give it some context rather that darken the background all the way.

You managed to pull a lot of nice detail on the flower and the petals. I might make the petals just a tad lighter than you have them now. Otherwise I think it is a good shot.   Posted: 07/04/2017 11:00:42

Fibonacci numbers for sure. I heard flowers and nature are full of basic symmetrical numbers and the golden spiral. Nicely done. The contrast and composition grow on me.   Posted: 07/04/2017 15:18:26

This is a very creative picture and I like the composition of the image. To me the stamen are so interesting it looks like you placed them individually on the petals and they are very effective. I particularly like the top one on the lower petal and the stamen that extends from the RHS petal to the lower petal. Without Jeffrey's suggestion it is an excellent picture with his suggestion it is outstanding. The flower is in the right hand side of the frame. My version puts the flower on the LHS. My wife prefers the original.   Posted: 07/09/2017 04:08:51

Lovely photo with nice contrast. The clarity of the stamens and detail make this a very interesting photo.

I have no suggestions. Great photo!   Posted: 07/10/2017 20:14:34

I just took a picture of a lily with backlighting. Going to retake later today based on lessons learned here. I usually don't take flowers but have always been impressed with the light colored flowers in monochrome, this is one. Thanks   Posted: 07/29/2017 10:25:04
