Gas Pump Handle by Alan Kiecker, QPSA

March 2023 - Gas Pump Handle

About the Image(s)

Description:
While spending a few days in Springfield, Illinois, my wife and I explored a bit of Historic Route 66. Today we found Henry's Rabbit Ranch in Staunton, Illinois with some absolutely ancient gas pumps that just begged me to take their photo.

Technical: Nikon Z7ii, Z 23-120 f/4 at 120mm, 1/50 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 250. Processed in Lightroom Classic on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 - small screen, slow processor - not my normal post-processing environment.

A nice cold weather image. You have a little noise in the picture. I ran your image through Topaz DeNoise AI and came up with this image The dogs are a little sharper and the number 14 now stands out. But I think it's a great shot.   Posted: 03/05/2023 16:17:45

Hi Alan, I'm seeing this same image and commentary from last month's submission. Is it me/my system?   Posted: 03/12/2023 08:46:49

You are correct. It should be deleted from this month. It looks like things got ahead of me and I failed to submit, or did I submit the same image twice? Currently out of town and do not have access to my photos, so I can not supply a new image.   Posted: 03/12/2023 16:17:10

Good Morning Alan

Interesting shot of history. I like your combination of 120mm with f/5.6, it created the perfect depth of field to keep all parts of the pump in focus, while throwing the background nicely out of focus.   Posted: 03/15/2023 06:55:50

Sorry everyone. I should have deleted the prior image when loading the new image for this month. It was a mistake.

I cant seem to delete the comments of the prior image. Thank you for understanding.   Posted: 03/19/2023 18:42:10

A very interesting subject, but I'd like a wider angle that shows a little more context. Since you processed in lightroom, I would suggest that you increase the texture and vibrance a bit to "pump up" (pun intended) the image. It would probably be a good ideea to correct the verticals.   Posted: 03/23/2023 09:22:00

Here is an updated version of the photo now that I am back home and on my desktop PC. Additional tweaks were added in Lightroom, the background was darkened to make the pump handle stand out more, Photoshop was used to get rid of a prominent distraction in the background just above the handle, and it was run through DeNoiseAI.   Posted: 03/23/2023 12:11:15
