Wild Horses Eminence, Missouri by Graham Fisher

About the Image(s)

Here's one from 2018. I took a trip to Eminence, Missouri to photograph wild horses there are about three herds of about 20 horses each and they wander around the area hanging out in different fields away from main roads. This means a lot of driving down dirt track roads to find them. Here a small group broken away from the main group.

Nikon D850, 28-300mm zoom @116mm, 1/10000sec, f10 hand held.

I find this image to be serene and pretty. The texture of the grass, trees and clouds are very interesting and captivating. Is there enough of the image to move the tree at the top from the edge? On the left, there is something sticking up and maybe this could be cropped out?   Posted: 09/20/2020 05:35:12

I agree with Fred's nice comments about your image. I would try cropping from the bottom and the left. Taking Fred's suggestion about the tree merging with the border, I thought I'd try content-aware fill and see if I could expand the top. To my surprise it worked out quite well. Just some suggestions.   Posted: 09/21/2020 09:33:23

Thanks Alan and Fred, these are very good suggestions, and definitely an improvement, especially the use of the content aware tool. Also I hadn't noticed the grass or whatever it is sticking up on the left so I'll take that out too.   Posted: 09/21/2020 21:45:53

I really like the atmosphere of this image. The fog low to the ground coupled with the fog rising behind the trees is great. I find my eye bouncing between the two groups of horses. I think I would have preferred that only one of the two groups was included in the frame, but that is just personal preference. Overall I feel like it creates a great sense of place. Good job.   Posted: 09/29/2020 08:20:57

I feel like I am there... the depth.. the natural colors are soothing. Agree with Alan on the cropping of the bottom... it draws more attention to the subjects.   Posted: 09/29/2020 09:33:32
